Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is a concept that was created in the 90s of the previous century. It is constantly entering the canon of teaching English around the world. Also in Poland this method is getting more and more popular.
CLIL relates to content and language integrated education based on simultaneous transmission of subject contents and foreign language. The CLIL method is recommended by the European Commission to promote language learning and linguistic diversity.

CLIL is an innovative methodical approach with a much broader scope than just foreign language teaching. In this method the students are focused on acquiring information related to various fields by using their foreign language skills. The use of CLIL has many advantages and it helps the students in English learning but also in the acquisition of knowledge or skills in different subjects.
The course in Malta was aimed at those in-service teachers in the primary, secondary and vocational sectors working with CLIL or are about to apply CLIL in their teaching methodology. The course introduced the principles of CLIL and analyzed CLIL teaching techniques, including practical ways of integrating CLIL into a classroom teaching environment.The main objectives of the course were:
The course in Malta was aimed at those in-service teachers in the primary, secondary and vocational sectors working with CLIL or are about to apply CLIL in their teaching methodology. 1. to explore the dimensions of CLIL and get an overview of the application of this discipline;
2. to review practical areas such as the 5 Cs of CLIL, cognition and thinking skills, scaffolding and assessment for CLIL;
3. to experience the cultural heritage of Malta with its bilingual linguistic environment.
The course was taught interactively, with input sessions and collaborative work, both as pair and group project work. It ends with an evaluation session, where teachers were asked to reflect upon the value of the knowledge gained on the course.
